Awareness rallies, campaigns mark 'World No Tobacco Day'.


Awareness campaigns, processions by college students marked the World No Tobacco Day (WNTC) being observed today by UNO member states all over the world.

Banumathi, Joint Director of Health and Family welfare flagged off an awareness rally in which large number of college girls took part. The participants also created awareness by releasing balloons near Coimbatore Government Arts College.

Later speaking to media Banumathi said that Health Department officials would raid shops near collages for the sale of any tobacco products including cigarettes, as it is banned Shops selling tobacco products near schools and colleges would be slapped with spot fines and products seized by the health officials, she said.

“Awareness campaigns on the evils of tobacco would be organized throughout the week by the Health and Family welfare department in the district” Banumathi said.

In a similar rally, which was flagged off by CCMC Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan, students of PSG Group of Institutions went in a procession carrying players warning about the ill- effects of consuming Tobacco.
