Two workers die, one more injured in crackers blast near Thanjavur.

In a tragic incident, two workers were charred to death and the owner of an illegally run crackers manufacturing unit at Ra Ra Muthirakottai village in Ammapettai block near here suffered grievous burns when the crackers accidentally exploded today.



A 45-year-old Muthamilnathan, resident of Chenbagapuram, Thenkondar Iruppu, was running the open air unit under the shades of Eucalyptus trees in the village. A 53-year-old Pichaiyan, hailing from Ra Ra Muthirakottai village and a 33-year-old Nagaraj, resident of Mannaiyar Thottam, Thillai Nagar, Thanjavur were busy manufacturing the crackers when the crackers accidentally exploded.

In the mishap, Pichaiyan was charred to death on the spot while Nagaraj died on the way to hospital. Muthamilnathan who suffered grievous injuries was admitted to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital where his condition is said to be stable.

Ammapettai police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
