Will the City Corporation act fast and evict major encroachment at Thirunagar?

Even though the City Corporation has conducted a major drive and retrieved 39.1 acres of encroached reserve sites  owned by the civic body, which is worth about Rs.382 crores, a major encroachment in Thirungar area (ward 63) in Tiruchy- Coimbatore road has not been evicted to this day, which has raised many eyebrows.

A Private party who is owning a marriage hall in Thirunagar has allegedly encroached upon 41.3 cents of Corporation reserve site and he is illegally using this encroached plot as a dining area for the marriage hall.  The said reserve site comes under ward 63 (East Zone) of the civic body.

Alleging that Corporation officials are hand-in-glove with the owner of the marriage hall, who has encroached upon the reserve site, the residents of the area say even though the marriage hall owner is using the reserve site for years to run his own business, no eviction operation has been carried out to retrieve the reserved site by the corporation officials.

Appealing to the CCMC Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan the residents of the area said that the commissioner should inspect the encroached site and take immediate measures to evict the said encroachment and other such illegal encroachments.

When SimpliCity contacted Vimala, Assistant Town Planning Officer (East Zone), she said “that the Corporation has conducted a recent spot  inspection of Thirunagar reserve site, in which it was proved that the marriage hall owner had encroached upon the site and using it for commercial purposes. The said encroachment would be evicted and reserve site would be retrieved once, the documents are prepared for the purpose”.
