The Horticulture Department holds 'Kodai Vizha', the summer festival at Valparrai, annually. Valparrai is a location that sees a large number of people from across the nation during the summer holidays. There are various tourist attractions in and around the region such as the Aliyar dam. The government conducts Kodai Vizha during this season of overflowing sightseers and glistening sunshine. The summer festival for this year was kick started yesterday. There was an impressive Kangaroo and Camel made of 12,000 Koya flowers and a flying horse made of 100 kg vegetables. This was largely appreciated by the tourists.
The Tourist Department, Rural Development Department and Health Department had set up stalls along with Aavin and Co-optex.

The Valparrai Tahsildar, Bhaskaran, had delivered the welcome address. Horticulture Sub-Director, Ramakrishnan; Coimbatore District Tourist Officer, Vijaykumar; Forest Officer, Shaktivel; Manampalli Tourist Officer, Shekhar and Municipality Engineer, Rajagopal, were present at the event as well.
Yesterday, on behalf of TN Arts and Culture Department, Karumattampatti Sangam presented an Oyilattam and the Mulanur Lightning Group performed the Thapaatam. On behalf of the Coimbatore Police, sniffer dogs showcased their talents. Students of Valparrai Boys High School, Girls High School and Higher Secondary School, staged dances as well. S.P Velumani had delivered the vote of thanks.

This event is usually conducted towards the end of May, however, locals have requested that the event should be conducted earlier in the month and people should be informed of the dates before hand.
