A fire broke out in a five-storey commercial building on Bengaluru Central Prison Road at Kaikondrahalli, off Hosur Road, on Saturday morning. No casualty was reported. However, goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed, according to Fire Services officials.
Smoke started billowing from the first and second floor of the building around 11.30 a.m. While the ground floor houses a supermarket, a home decor outlet is on the first floor. The second, third and the fourth floors are let out as paying guest accommodation for men. The fifth floor is used as a common dining area for the paying guests, a Fire Services officer said.
Narendra Kumar and Ashutosh Kumar, both working as banking analysts with Wipro and staying on the third floor of the building, first noticed the smoke. They alerted the other residents and they all came out.
Mr. Narendra Kumar called the Fire Services. Six fire tenders were pressed into service. The nearby buildings were also evacuated and the fire was doused.
Fire Services officials suspect the cause of the fire to be an electrical short-circuit. A team of electrical inspectors are analysing the evidence to ascertain the exact cause.
