Construction of high level bridge across Cauvery river, Bhoomi pooja performed

Bhoomi pooja was performed at Umbalapadi village in Papanasam taluk  today to mark the commencement of works for the construction of a high level bridge at an outlay of Rs 5 crore across Cauvery river.



TN Agriculture Minister R Duraikkannu, Collector A Annadurai, MLA M Rengasamy, former MLA Ramkumar, among others, took part in the rituals of Bhoomi pooja.

Later, talking to media persons, minister Duraikkannu said that the bridge will be constructed to a length of 231 metre and a height of 4 metre with 64 pillars.

The construction of this high level bridge will reduce the travel distance and the project will benefit the residents of at least 20 villages including Kudikadu,  Ammapalli, Thaikkal, Perumalkoil, Karuppur, Ilangarkudi, Naickerpettai and Rajagiri, Duraikkannu said.



The minister also ordered the contractors to complete the construction works within the stipulated time.

The minister said that the works for the construction of  a high level bridge across Vennar river at Kothangudi village are going on in full swing. Similarly, a bridge would be constructed across Arasalar river at Andankkudi village at an oulay of Rs3. 6 crore while another bridge at an outlay of Rs 6 crore would be constructed at Ganapathi Agraharam, he said.

The minister claimed that the administrative sanction to these projects was accorded during the rule of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa  while the funds were allotted by the present chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
