Members of the Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Association on Saturday submitted a petition with Governor of Kerala P. Sathasivam requesting the State Government of Kerala to reconstruct a sand canal into a concrete canal.
According to S.K. Ramasami, Founder President of the Association of The Kalkothi canal situated in Palakkad District in Kerala, provides water to farmers in Perur Circle in Coimbatore. The canal also runs two kilo meters inside Kerala.
However, Ramasami claimed in his petition, since the canal is made of sand, water gets blocked by falling rocks and landslides.
“We request the State Government of Kerala to reconstruct the canal using concrete so that farmers in Alandhurai, Mathvarayapuram and Thondamuthur are benefited.
The association is also to petition the Chief Minister of Kerala regarding the issue.
