Dr. Kalam Library, is an initiative taken up by 'The Arc Foundation' India and Coimbatore Corporation, to set up color-themed libraries at 100 Local Government and Corporation Schools. They also hope to renew the interest of students in libraries through various storytelling activities, literacy programs, competitions and annual events.
Dr. Kalam Library is now organizing their 2nd Mega Book Drive at Brooke fields mall between 27th May- June 4th 2017. Speaking on this, Aparna, one of the Founder of 'The Arc Foundation' shares that 'This is our second book drive and so far, we are over-whelmed by the response, as we have collected close to 200 books from the public, just in one day. People from various stores in Brooke fields Mall too came forward to donate some useful books of various genres.
We have given out a number 9364123123 to which people can call and donate books. We receive close to 200 calls every day, out of which a majority of the donors are senior citizens who have expressed their will to donate some of their rare and unique collection of books.
As a part of the programme, a story telling session will be held next week, were grand mothers will share some forgotten age-old stories meant for the kids. As they recite, we will record their stories and play it back to the children of Corporation Schools. And, we are hopeful that this initiative will kindle the spirit of story telling and listening to moral-based stories amongst Children.
Apart from school books and magazines, those who wish to contribute books can drop in new or gently used books to help the local children succeed in school. All Books will be donated to the Dr Kalam Libraries of 100 local Government and Corporation Schools'.
