Gold jewellery manufacturers of Coimbatore file petition regarding GST rate with the revenue department

The gold jewellery manufacturers of Coimbatore have filed a petition with the revenue department requesting that a GST rate above 1.25% should not be imposed as it would largely impact the public.

A meeting was earlier held by the industrial pioneers of Coimbatore regarding the GST, with Minister S.P. Velumani as their chief guest. The Indian Business Council and various other business councils were present at the event. Speaking to the press after the meeting, Muthu Venkatraman, Chairman of the Gold Jewelers Manufacturers Association said, “Coimbatore is the third largest producer of gold jewellery in India. Most gold jewellery workers are in Coimbatore. Although there has been no announcement until now pertaining to the GST on gold jewellery, it is alleged to be fixed at 4%. This will largely affect the public. Hence, we have filed a petition with the Revenue Department Deputy Commissioner and Minister S.P.Velumani.”

They have also urged the authorities to pay heed to their request and provide them with a probable solution.
