The Government in the state is taking general public and traders for a ride in the name Good and Service Tax (GST) which will be rolled out soon. The new and single window taxation regime when it comes into play would be hard on the people and traders alike said Vikkiramaraja, President, Confederation of All Traders Union

The Cheif minister should understand that the people would be much affected by the GST regimen and the political class should realize that they have to go back to people for votes .

Vikkiramaraj briefed the media after taking part in the consultative meeting of the traders bodies and unions in the city said that GST levy would be up to 42% for certain products and services and people should be ready to face this new taxation regime. The confederation has planned to stage agitation across the state on May 30, condemning the imposition of GST, and hotel associations and drug shops association should lend their support to the agitation.

Tax exemptions are not given to even ginger and garlic but kumkum, sacred ash are given tax exemption under GST regime. The confederation would continue with the protests if textiles and jewelry are levied with high taxes. We would launch our protest again after June 3, Vikkiramaraja said.
