In order to encourage industries to be proactive in managing their GST compliance and to educate industries on the technical and legal adoption of the law that is to be effective from 1st July 2017, CII Coimbatore Zone organised a two-day training programme on GST. It was held on 25th and 26th of May 2017 at Coimbatore.
Mr A Govindaraj I.R.S, Deputy Commissioner, Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax – Coimbatore Zone, inaugurated the session and highlighted the benefits of GST. He said “GST will eliminate the cascading effect of indirect taxes. It is largely technology driven and will reduce human interface to a great extent."
Mr N Ramkumar I.R.S, Deputy Commissioner, Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax – Coimbatore Zone, an eminent speaker of the training programme stressed on the importance of GST education for all industry members in order to have a smooth transition to the new GST regime. He addressed the gathering on input tax credit, eligibility, prohibition, restrictions and ITC under IGST.

Mr G Karthikeyan, Convenor – Economic Affairs & Taxation Panel, CII Coimbatore Zone and MD, GKM Tax Advisors Ltd delivered the welcome address and said GST will have a number of benefits for businesses and consumers as well as the Government.
In the Technical session, presentations were made on the overview, features of GST Law and Supply, compliance under GST, IGST, GST impact study, training and capacity building measures taken by Central & State Government. The participants actively interacted with the experts about various issues with regard to the implementation of GST.
National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics(NACEN), The Institute of Company Secretaries of India(ICSI), GST Street and Taxsutra were the technical partners for the programme.
