Taluk level committees formed to look into anomalies in Smart Family Card distribution - R.Kamaraj, Food Minister


Taluk level official committees have been formed to look into the complaints while registering names for the smart family card scheme, which under way in the state said R, Kamaraj, Minister of Food and civil supplies.



After Presiding over a review meeting for digitization of ration cards and issuing smart cards held at the District Collectorate here, the Food Minister said Out of 1.91 crore family cards in the state, a good 1.31 cr family card holders have been attached their Aadhar numbers for the smart card distribution. .While 53 lakh have furnished wrong details another 96,000 family card holders have not yet registered their Aadhar details, the reason for which is being investigated by the officials.

“Even as the Government is carrying out the work for smart cards, there are complaints about cards carrying wrong names and addresses. To avoid such anomalies, official teams have been appointed at each taluk levels to rectify these faults” the minister said.

In Coimbatore alone 3.52 lakh smart cards have been issued so far, out of the total 9.42 lakh existing family cards the minister said.

The Minister added that in the last 6 years alone 972 hoarders and black marketers who have been involved in PDS rice smuggling have been sent to prison under the provisions of Goondas Act.
