Nilgiris collector conducts safety inspection of 66 school buses in Ooty.

Nilgiris District Collector P.Shankar conducted safety inspections of as many as 64 school buses at the Government Arts College grounds.

The mandatory provisions in school buses such as fire extinguishers, emergency exits, driver cabins, first aid boxes, floor boards are checked. The collector also checked weather speed governors are fixed and working in each one of the buses and vans that ferry children to schools.

Lakshimipathy, Regional Transport officer said that five buses out of the 64 were found to have defective safety equipment and the concerned schools have been directed to rectify it.

The collector later told the media that a total of 322 buses were ferrying school children to schools in the district, and the annual safety inspection is carried out to ensure that the buses meet the stipulated safety standards. The inspections of buses in Kothagiri and Ooty have already been carried out.
