Government Medical College employees stage unanticipated strike expressing agitation against the assault of the RMO

On 11th May, Kittan, hailing from Karamadai, was admitted at the Coimbatore Government Medical College for treatment. On 15th May, he passed away due to the treatment being ineffective. For 5 days, no family member had come to claim the body and so it was sent to the mortuary.

Yesterday, his relatives went to the Coimbatore Government Medical College to claim his body, however, a lot of chaos was created as he had registered his name on the college records as Kittan, while his family members alleged it to be Kittuswamy. When Resident Medical Officer, Dr. Soundervel demanded identity proof, one of Kittan's relatives, Kilmore, attacked the doctor and forcefully seized his cell phone along with a few other people. They also threatened the doctor by stating that they were a press members.

One of the relatives who was involved in assaulting the doctor was arrested, the police are in search for the rest.

The employees of the Coimbatore Government Medical College, who were agitated about the incident, staged an unanticipated strike demanding immediate action should be taken against the assaulters. They also expressed the need for providing increased security and safety to doctors.

A case has been registered with the Racecourse police, further investigations will also be held.
