Food Bank Coimbatore was established in October 2015, by a group of socially responsible youngsters in order to serve the underprivileged and are committed to eradicating poverty and creating a hunger-free nation. These individuals staunchly beleive that poverty is what happens when people give up caring for one another, and this viewpoint that they share is what lead to the formation of the food bank.
On the occasion of World Hunger day on May 28th, 2017, the team is planning to host a signature campaign and an awareness drive for kids. While speaking to SimpliCity, Vaishnavi Balaji of Food Bank Coimbatore shared that, “We started Food Bank Coimbatore in October 2015 with just 4 volunteers. Now we have 200 active volunteers and have served 28000 meals to the needy. Our aim is to create a hunger-free nation and we believe we could make a difference.
This year on World Hunger Day, which falls on May 28th, we have planned few awareness programs. On 27th May we will have a Signature Campaign which will not be like any other signature campaign wherein people come, put their signatures and leave. The reason behind this signature campaign being unique will be unveiled on the day of the event. We will also be screening a documentary which will comprise of volunteers and donors of Food Bank.
Apart from that, we are also planning to conduct an awareness program for kids on May 28th to inculcate the social responsibility of sharing whatever little we have. They will also be taught the importance of food and the ways to eradicate hunger. Following this, a massive food drive will be held at VOC Park by serving 1000+ food packets to the needy. This will be our 160th initiative towards creating hunger-free nation."
