To propitiate the Rain Gods and seeking bountiful rains, a special yagna was performed at city-fame Perur Patteeshwarar Temple, in which MLAs and thousands of devotees took part.

During the yagna, the priests immersed the Linga neck-deep in the waters, to the accompaniment of Devaram hymns. Rituals such as Gaja pooja was also performed and holy waters brought from various places were sprinkled into the tank.
“The yagnas are performed as per the directive of SP Velumani, Minister for Municipality and Rural Development who ordered special yagnas be performed in all the important temples in the region. In these yagans the rain God Varuna was invoked and his blessings sought to give bountiful rains to the region, which has been reeling under severe drought conditions” sad the Execuvitve officer of the Perur temple.

Similar yagnas have also been performed at Marudamalai Subrmanya swami temple, Vana Bhadrakaliamman temple at Mettupalayam, Ramalingasmay temple in Idumkampalayam, Manneeswarar temple, in Annur, Sangameshwarar temple and Kalakaleshwarar temple in Kovilpalayam.
Elected representatives, devotees took part in large numbers in all the yagnas.
