36-year old Selvakumar, the green campaigner carried close to 70 saplings in a specially made dress and came to the District Collector’s office on Grievances day to create awareness among the public on the ill effects of cutting trees and the need to plant to trees to save our planet.

“I have been engaged in creating environmental awareness among the public for the past 7 years on issues of environmental protection by planting more trees. Trees help check global warming and bring plenty of rains. The drought conditions prevailing in Tamilnadu are due to indiscriminate cutting of trees, which bring rains . “Selvakumar, hailing from Kangeyam and working as an Assistant in Tiruppur Taluk office says.
Selvakumar who is travelling to various districts to create awareness on tree planting and so far he has recently visited Madurai, Dindigul and Karur, Coimbatore is also distributing free saplings. To preserve the destruction of water bodies and bunds he is planting toddy palm saplings in many areas.
“To check the rising air pollution in cities like Coimbatore we should plant more trees, soaks up carbon-di-oxide and releases oxygen. Instead of praying to deities for rains, we should plant more trees, which would bring more rains “Selvakumar said.
