Civil Defence Organisation conducts 82nd Training Camp for Railway Employees at Keti

The Civil Defence Organisation is a body created in the year 1962, during the Chinese aggression on India, for training government employees to help and save civil properties and civilians during wars. The Organisation aims at saving lives, minimising damage to the property and maintaining industrial productivity in the event of such hostile attacks.

The volunteers of the Civil Defence Organisation have been doing an excellent job over the years, in helping the public, especially after the conflict with Pakistan and also during disasters such as Tsunami rail mishaps, etc. The mission of the Civil Defence Organization is to save human lives, alleviate their sufferings and reduce damage to property. Railways, being a unique service provider and the lifeline of the nation, is a vital target of the enemies. During such enemy attacks, the Civil Defence volunteers ensure uninterrupted traffic, protecting railway personnel, property and passengers. 

The organisation is headed by the Hon’ble Union Home Minister at the Central level. At the Southern Railway Zonal level, the Dy. General Manager is the Controller of Civil Defence. 

Every year, the organisation conducts annual camps to train railway employees. The 82nd Training Camp is being held from 22nd May, 2017 to 27th  May 2017. The Inaugural Function of the Camp is being held at the Scouts and Guides Camp at Ketti (behind Keti Railway Station), today at 10.30 Hrs. Shri Hari Shankar Verma, DRM, Salem, is presiding over the inaugural ceremony and will address the gathering. Shri B. Ilangovan, Sr. Divisional Finance Manager, Chennai Division, who is also the former Controller of Civil Defence Organisation of Southern Railway; Shri.R. Murali, Sr.Asst. Dy.General Manager/Southern Railway-cum-Dy.Controller of Civil Defence Organisation, and other officers of Southern Railway will be participating in the function. Sri P. Raghunathan, Sr. Civil Defence Inspector is conducting the training for the railway employees. 

About 130 newly recruited Track Maintainers from all over Southern Railways are participating in the training of first aid, fire fighting and other rescue operations.
