Heavy rains with strong winds in Nilgris District resulted in uprooting of several trees at the Coonoor Mettupalayam stretch, yesterday.
Reports say, amongst the trees that were uprooted in the heavy lash of rains, an age-old tree fell on a tourist vehicle that was en route from Kerala in the MTP-Coonoor road. The SUV was completely damaged, leaving the passenger injured too.
The traffic was halted for several hours until the uprooted tree was removed by the Police and the Fire Service Department.
