Last April, a high court order was passed to shut down all tasmacs on state and national highways. Complying with the order, a tasmac located near the Singanallur bus stand, which is an extremely busy spot, shut down. However, later it was found that they were conducting backhand sales under closed shutters. The residents of Singanallur had registered a complaint saying that the tasmac should be completely shut down, however, the police took no action.

Due to the unresponsiveness of the police, about 50 members of the Marxist Communist party, ravaged the tasmac and broke liquor bottles.

Mr.Kanakraj, a member of the Marxist Communist party and the municipal board said, “The tasmac located next the Singanallur police station operates only due to the strong support of the police. The Chief Minister has not devised any plan for the stringent monitoring of tasmacs. No legal action was taken against the owner of the building where the liquor shop was set up either.”
