Two young men were arrested after they allegedly tried to forcibly take money from a 50-year-old man near the Ondipudur flyover in Coimbatore, claiming they needed it to buy liquor.
Coimbatore: Two young men were arrested for allegedly attempting to rob a 50-year-old man of money near the Ondipudur flyover in Coimbatore after demanding cash to buy liquor.
The victim, Senthil Kumar (50), originally from Athikunna Estate in Devala in the Pandalur taluk of the Nilgiris district, is currently residing in the SMS Layout area of Ondipudur.
According to the police, Senthil Kumar had gone near the railway tracks beneath the Ondipudur flyover on the day of the incident when two men allegedly intercepted him.
The accused, identified as Srihari alias Muttaikose (23) of the VR Puram area and Manikandan alias Bonda Mani (22) of Kamatchipuram, allegedly demanded money from Senthil Kumar to purchase liquor.
When he refused, the two allegedly attempted to forcibly take money from his shirt pocket. Senthil Kumar raised an alarm, following which people from the neighbourhood rushed to the spot.
On seeing members of the public approaching, the two allegedly threatened Senthil Kumar with dire consequences and fled the scene.
Based on a complaint lodged by Senthil Kumar, the Singanallur police registered a case and launched a search for the accused. Srihari and Manikandan were subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
