En route to Ooty to inaugurate the 121st flower show, CM Eddapadi Palaniswami stopped by at the Coimbatore Airport. Addressing the media, he said, “The water crisis in 7 districts including Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruchy needs to be resolved immediately. The first step of eliminating this problem is to save rainwater. Currently, 100 crores are being spent on the cleaning up of l519 lakes. 300 crores will further be spent in the cleaning up of another 2200 lakes. Next week the first phase of the clean up drive will be held at the Nettur dam, after which other dams will follow.
The farmers of the state are bearing the brunt of severe droughts across Tamil Nadu. About 6000-7000 crores are being allocated for the crop insurance fund. Today, video conference will be held with the district collectors of all the 7 districts to discuss and resolve this issue of water shortage.”
On being questioned about the 2 opposing parties within AIADMK, the CM replied saying, “We are amidst talks regarding the same.”
