Valparai’s Chinnakalar Records Highest Rainfall of 57 mm in Coimbatore District

Chinnakalar in Coimbatore’s Valparai region recorded the district’s highest rainfall of 57 mm, while Siruvani received 11 mm. The district recorded 187.60 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, with Siruvani Dam’s water level standing at 27.42 feet.


Coimbatore: Chinnakalar in the Valparai region recorded the highest rainfall in Coimbatore district at 57 mm over the past 24 hours.

Cinchona, Valparai PAP and Sholayar recorded 30 mm each, while Valparai Taluk received 27 mm of rainfall. The Siruvani foothills recorded 7 mm, followed by Madukkarai with 3 mm and Podanur Railway Station with 1.80 mm.

The Siruvani catchment areas had received significantly higher rainfall the previous day, with 30 mm recorded at the Siruvani foothills and 26 mm at the Siruvani Dam. However, rainfall has gradually decreased, with only 11 mm recorded at Siruvani during the latest 24-hour period.

A couple of days ago, Coimbatore district recorded an average rainfall of 24.15 mm, which was classified as moderate rainfall. With rainfall levels subsequently decreasing, the district’s average rainfall in the latest 24-hour period stood at 8.16 mm.

The water depth at Siruvani Dam stood at 27.42 feet, against the reported depth of 49.53 feet. As per DSO instructions, the water level is restricted to 44.61 feet.

The useful storage in Siruvani Dam was reported at 257.08 million cubic feet. Meanwhile, the water supplied through the 1,000 mm, 500 mm and 450 mm main pipelines stood at 60.95 MLD.
