CCMC Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan carried out surprise raids in shops at Vadavalli area and seized plastic bags and products which fell under the 50 micron llevel.
Accompanied by the team of civic officials the commissioner went from shop to shop and slapped fines of Rs.1000 to a couple of shop keepers who have violated norms and vended out their products in plastic bags to customers.
Vijayakarthikeyan said that the corporation is vigoroulsy running a campaign to make Coimbatore a no plastics zone. The denizens of Coimbatore and shopkeepers should cooperate in the campaign and say no to plastics tomake the city clean and green he said.
