No formal complaint as such has been received by the National Commission for women from the side of affected woman, who has been at the receiving end of police brutality at Tirupur, while she went to protest against the setting up of a TASMAC shop said Rekha Sharma, Member National Commission for Women.
Rekha Sharma, who was here to conduct “Mahila Jan Sunwai” to hear complaints on crime against women from the affected parties told the media that Mahila Jan Sunwai is being conducted in all the district quarters all over the nation to hear cases concerning cases filed by women and their rights.
While lauding Tamilnadu policemen for the cooperation they lent to resolve cases concerning crime against women, Rekha Sharma said in Coimbatore 40 cases have been registered out of which 90% cases are resolved. Chennai has the highest of 100 cases of crime against women, she said.
“National Commission for Women would initiate disciplinary action against two police officials who have hindered the investigation of a case filed by a woman of Coimbatore” Rekha Sharma said. Exhorting women to come out and file police cases when crime against them are perpetrated, she said only then the increasing number of crimes against women could be brought to book.
