Tamilnadu Government has sought a central funding of Rs.736 crores to establish as many as 14 new bus terminals in major corporations and Municipalities in the state said SP Velumani, Minister of Municipalities and Rural Development.
The minister who met the Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways has given a representation to this effect.
The state Government has prepared a Project proposal to establish new bus terminals in 7 cities including Coimbatore at an outlay of Rs, 202.80 and new bus terminals would also come up in Tiruchy, Madurai, Vellore, Erode, Thanjavur, and Tirunelveli at a total outlay of 545.04 crores. Bus terminals would also establish at Tindivanam, Karur, and Mayiladuthurai at the total cost of Rs.190 crores the minister said.
Due to rapid urbanization happening in Tamilnadu, a number of people are moving to cities in search of livelihood. Out of 124Municipalities 122 Municipalities are catered with bus terminal facilities.
