After remaining in limbo for two days due to statewide strike by transport corporation employees, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus services in Chennai returned to near-normal conditions on Wednesday.
Official sources with MTC said 3,400 buses began plying in Chennai city since Wednesday morning. Similarly, outstation services are running as per schedule from Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) at Koyembedu, sources added.
The indefinite strike, which began from Sunday evening, resulted in a fewer state-owned transport corporation fleets hitting the roads. But, the government brought in mini buses, omni buses and contract carriers from different parts of the state to ensure that passengers in Chennai were not affected by the strike.
Finally, the strike was called off following talks and agreement between the striking trade union leaders and the government representatives on Tuesday night.
