Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation administration intensified its stray pig capture operations on August 6, 2026, prioritizing public safety and sanitation. A special drive was launched across all 100 wards under the Corporation's five zones to capture stray pigs that had been causing nuisance to residents.

During this operation, a specialized pig-catching team conducted focused activities in Ward 91 of the South Zone, particularly in Netaji Puram and the area behind Kuniamuthur Police Station. The team successfully captured a total of 13 stray pigs during the drive. The captured animals were safely disposed of outside Corporation limits in a manner ensuring no disturbance to public life.

Furthermore, strict action has been taken against pig owners in these areas under the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act, 1939. Legal notices have been issued to them seeking explanations for allowing their animals to roam freely and create public nuisance.

In an official announcement, the Coimbatore Corporation administration stated, "If pig owners within Corporation limits continue to cause disturbance to the public and create sanitation hazards, stringent legal action will be taken under the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act, 1939." The warning serves as a clear message to those violating civic norms.

The Corporation administration has affirmed that such operations will continue regularly to ensure public health and safety across all Corporation areas. This initiative reflects the civic body's commitment to maintaining sanitation standards and addressing citizen grievances promptly.
