One-day workshop on Construction Waste Management and Utilization organised.

CCM Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan inaugurated a one- day workshop on “Training and Capacity Building  workshop on Recycling of Construction waste and its Uitlizaition " which is organized under the aegis of Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for the benefit of Corporation engineers and officials.

Speaking on the occasion Vijaykarthikeyan said "that to streamline proper disposal of construction waste and debris and to recycle it, a recycling unit has been coming up at Ukkadam. The facility could recycle 100 metric tons of construction debris and is being established at a total cost of Rs.9 crore. 



“The upcoming unit would be one of the biggest recycling units in Asia when it  gets completed and it would serve to  manufacture, paver blocks, M-sand, and bricks.” Corporation Commissioner said. 

The indiscriminate dumping of construction waste and debris has led to high levels of environmental pollution, which also leads to many diseases including breathing disorders among the general population. 



The corporation has established  17 collection centers to store the construction waste before it was transferred to the recycling unit. 

Construction waste management and technology were imparted to the City Corporation engineers and officials, who attended the workshop.
