Coimbatore: Water Resource Department officials have reported that water levels in the district's three major dams - Aliyar, Parambikulam and Solayar - are witnessing continuous rise due to the southwest monsoon. The Aliyar dam, located near Anaimalai, has a total capacity of 120 feet. As of August 5, the water level stands at 56.51 feet, fed by inflow from catchment areas. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of 379 cubic feet per second (cusecs), while 100 cusecs is being released for irrigation purposes. Officials noted that water inflow has been gradually decreasing due to reduced rainfall in recent days.
The Parambikulam dam near Pollachi has a storage capacity of 72 feet. As of today (August 5), the water level has reached 29.88 feet against its total capacity. The dam is receiving a substantial inflow of 1,913 cusecs while releasing 60 cusecs for agricultural purposes. With the southwest monsoon continuing, water levels are steadily rising, bringing cheer to farmers in the Pollachi region who depend on this source for irrigation.
The Solayar dam near Valparai has the highest capacity among the three, with a total storage of 160 feet. Current water level as of August 5 stands at 94.92 feet. The dam is receiving a robust inflow of 2,734 cusecs while releasing 1,630 cusecs downstream. Water Resource Department officials confirmed that the water level continues to rise steadily, ensuring adequate supply for downstream areas.
