Amaravathi Dam Water Level Reaches 42 Feet, Thirumoorthy at 35 Feet

The water level at Amaravathi Dam in Tiruppur district has risen to 42.03 feet due to continuous rainfall, while Thirumoorthy Dam stands at 35.09 feet, Water Resources Department officials reported on August 3. Amaravathi Dam is receiving an inflow of 1,530 cubic feet per second.

Coimbatore: The water levels at the two major reservoirs in Tiruppur district - Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy dams - have risen significantly due to continuous rainfall, Water Resources Department officials announced on August 3.

The Amaravathi Dam, which has a total storage capacity of 90 feet, has seen its water level reach 42.03 feet as of today, thanks to persistent rainfall in its catchment areas. Officials reported that the dam is currently receiving an inflow of 1,530 cubic feet per second, indicating substantial water accumulation in the reservoir.

Similarly, the Thirumoorthy Dam, located near Udumalaipettai with a storage capacity of 60 feet, has recorded a water level of 35.09 feet. Water Resources Department officials stated that 21 cubic feet of water is being released from this dam to manage the storage levels effectively.

The southwest monsoon has been bringing consistent rainfall to the Western Ghats region, resulting in good water inflow to both dams. This development has brought relief and joy to farmers in the region who depend on these reservoirs for their agricultural activities.

With the water levels in both dams continuing to rise steadily, it is anticipated that there will be adequate water storage to meet drinking water and irrigation requirements during the summer season. The sustained rainfall has ensured a healthy water reserve for the coming months, providing much-needed security for both urban and rural communities dependent on these water sources.
