The Local Planning Authority (LPA) of the Coimbatore District Administration has issued orders to five encroachers who have illegally used the splay areas near their residences in the city here.
The order has come after a site inspection by the officials at the Parsn Shesh Nestle campus in Nanjundapuram, where a petitioner had filed a complaint with LPA about the encroachment.
According to the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act 1920 all buildings located at the intersection of two or more streets/roads are required to be rounded off or splayed off. The directions are also mentioned in the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Act, 1981 and GO No 130 dated 14.06.2010, Development Control Regulations.
However, not many in the city including group and individual houses seem to be following the stipulation as the splay areas, which are supposed to be common areas were found to be encroached upon either by illegal constructions or by sign boards, which again is a violation.
The areas are also used for setting up of bushes, parking of vehicle, setting up of ornamental plants and mini gardens that invariably block the view of vehicle users while coming to such blind curves. They are supposed to provide visibility to vehicle users to maneuver accordingly if anyone crosses the road or a vehicle comes from that direction.
Since many constructions do not follow the rule, they result in blind corners posing danger to road users.
While the matter was taken to the Local Planning Authorities along with details regarding perpetrators in residential areas, officials were expected to give notices to violators.
Subsequently, notices were served to five perpetrators residing in Parsn Shesh Nestle and the LPA has given a thirty days breathing period to clear the encroachment, failing which, actions would be taken on the violators according to the law.
More notices are expected in the coming days.
