The Coimbatore City Police have invoked the Goondas Act against a 44-year-old man arrested in a POCSO case involving the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have detained A.S. Sundar (44) under the Goondas Act after his arrest in a POCSO case involving the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl.
Police said a case was registered against Sundar at the All Women Police Station (Central), Coimbatore, on June 27, 2026, following which he was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Considering his continued involvement in anti-social activities, the Inspector of Police, All Women Police Station (Central), and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Sub-Division, recommended his preventive detention.
Acting on the recommendation, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Kannan, invoked the provisions of the Goondas Act against the accused.
