For the past couple of days, Brookebond Road, Coimbatore, has been subject to water clogging under the Kikani pass due to a drainage leak. The traffic is unable to progress due to this. Vehicles are jammed on both the sides of the flyover. However, this is nothing new to the residents of Coimbatore.

“I grew up seeing these issues with the city, and now my children will grow up seeing the same. Even though the problem of water clogging has been surfacing in various parts of the city for years together, no solution has been sought” said a passing motorist.

Every time drainage water floods, the corporation sends people with suction pumps to clear the water, however, the problem does not end there. Weather forecasters have predicted that the instances of water flooding and clogging will largely increase during the monsoons. There have also been instances where cars have sunk due to water blockade.

In the modern times, when our city is moving forward to be a smart city, equipped with the latest technology and a futuristic vision, we still lag behind when it comes to administration and people's welfare. The residents of the city hope that the corporation will come up with a permanent remedy to this perpetual issue of Coimbatore.
