The four and half year BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) is equally a promising career choice for students aspiring to become doctors. The students get to learn over 80% of what is taught in an MBBS course and more over physiotherapy is a growing field, where opportunities are aplenty said Rajesh Khanna, President of Coimbatore Physiotherapists Association and Chief Physiotherapist of Friends Physiotherapy Hospital.

Those who could not crack NEET need not get disheartened and they can always choose physiotherapy as their career he said.
Speaking to SimpliCity Rajesh Khanna said that Physiotherapists don't prescribe drugs and so there is no fear of side effects as in other medical streams such as Allopathy, Homeopathy.
Master of Physiotherapy ( MPT) is offered in as many as 10 colleges in the state and there are specialties in physiotherapy including in Orthopaedics, Neurology, Paediatrics, cardiothoracic disciplines. Dr. Rajesh Khanna said.
There are two Government colleges offering Physiotherapy courses and 23 self-financing colleges are offering the courses too while 5 colleges in deemed universities also have Physiotherapy in their course curriculum.
"A pass in plus Two ( Science Group) with minimum50% of marks is the eligibility criteria to join in BPT. If the applicant happens to be the first graduate student of a given family he or she will get a scholarship of Rs.20,000 and SC/SC candidates from low-income brackets would get full fee waivers.Aspiring students can download applications from tnhealth.org."
"A free counseling center is functioning at Friends Physiotherapy Hospital, through which free counseling is offered to aspiring students, who want to choose a career in physiotherapy," Rajesh Khanna said.
