377 kg of plastic products seized by CCMC officials.



A team of CC Municipal Corporation officials has raided and seized a huge cache of 377 kg of banned plastic bags and products which fall under stipulated 50 microns from as many as 253 shops, cutting across all the five zones. 



The City Corporation which has intensified its campaign aginst the use of plastic bags and products from May 1 has issued an advisory to shop owners not to sell or hoard harmful plastic bags, plates, tumblers, mugs and other paraphernalia which fall under 50 microns. Despite the warning, the shopkeepers continued with their sale of banned plastic products across the city.



Following this, the civic officials have carried out surprise raids and seized the banned plastic products. While in west zones ( Sathy road) 45 kg of plastic products were seized from 19 shops, in South Zone ( Kovaipudur area) 10 kg of banned plastics were seized from 38 shops. In central zone, which included Rajaveeedhi, Nehru street, and 100 feet road 91 kg of plastic products were seized from 45 shops.

CCMCommissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan has exhorted the public not to buy plastic products under 50 micron and cooperate in the “ no plastics campaign” which is being vigrously implemented in the corporation limits.
