The residents of Chinniyampalayam, from whom lands were procured for the city civil airport expansion project have petitioned District collector TN Hariharan to intervene and find an amicable solution with regard to quantum of compensation extended to them.

The petitioners, who met the District collector have noted that even though the Court has directed the authorities to compensate the farmers for market rates the authorities are not following the directive' the petitioners alleged.
“About 400 acres of lands are being procured from the local farmers and residents by the Government for the civil airport expansion project., which was announced in 2006. The authorities now maintain that they would distribute compensation to the tune of Rs.15 to Rs.30 lakhs per acre, whereas the market rate of this lands is Rs.60 lakhs.
"About 30 factories and 150 households are situated in the said area, where lands are being procured The present compensation is not acceptable to us. The Government should come forward to give at least Rs.60 lakh per acre. “ the petitioners said.
The civil airport project was announced in 2006 and as per the plan, the civil airport would be extended to the 600 acres.While Airport Authority of India had 150 acres in its possession, the other 400 acres had to be procured from adjoining lands as per the Land Acquisition Act.
