Coimbatore: Three special police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the individuals involved in the petrol bomb attack on a house at Kallikanaickenpalayam near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore, an incident that triggered panic among residents after disturbing CCTV visuals surfaced on social media.

According to police sources, the attack was allegedly carried out by Chennai-based Karthi alias Mariyappan, who is said to have a criminal background, along with a few associates. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was known to the complainant's daughter. However, the woman reportedly cut off contact with him after learning about his alleged criminal antecedents, including his detention under the Goondas Act.

Police said the accused, allegedly enraged over the fallout, arrived at the residence on two-wheelers and hurled petrol-filled bottles towards the entrance of the house. The bottles exploded in the portico area, setting objects on fire and causing panic in the neighbourhood. Though no injuries were reported, visuals of the flames and residents screaming in fear sparked shock across the district.

Police have formed three special teams to trace and nab the accused involved in the incident. Senior police officials are closely monitoring the investigation and have assured residents that the culprits will be apprehended soon.
