This rescued former child labourer student wanted to pursue B.A in Tamil Literature.

S. Ramanathan of Velliangadu in Tiruppur, one of the nine students who has been rescued from child labor in West Tamilnadu and given a chance to pursue his education wanted to do B.A ( Tamil Literature ) from Government Arts College in Coimbatore.

Ramanathan was rescued by Child Monitoring Cell officials from child labor when he was studying the third standard. He pursued his education and appeared for plus two exams.

“The student who scored 1050 has chosen Tamil Literature as his selected field of study, which is a glad news for all of us, “ said Subbulakshmi his teacher.

Ramanathan himself wanted to work against child labor practices in future.

Speaking to SimpliCity Ramanathan said, “The future of young children is nipped in the bud due to child labor. According to International Labour Organisation (ILO) children under the age of 14 could not be forced into labor. The deprived section of children often falls prey to child labor. They are rescued and mainstreamed by National Child Labour Project (NCLP) in our country"

“It is gladdening that 250 rescued children like me have passed the plus two exams from various parts of the State. “ Ramanathan added.
