SIEMA Submits Representation to CM Vijay Seeking Stronger Support for Pump Manufacturing Sector

The Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association (SIEMA) has submitted a comprehensive representation to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, seeking policy support for pump and motor manufacturing, MSME development, export promotion, technology upgradation, and industrial growth in Tamil Nadu.

Coimbatore: The Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association (SIEMA) has submitted a detailed representation to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay outlining key measures aimed at strengthening the pump manufacturing industry and accelerating industrial development across the state.

In the representation dated May 11, 2026, SIEMA President Mithun Ramdass congratulated CM Vijay on the party’s electoral victory and expressed confidence in the new government’s vision for industrial growth, economic progress, and manufacturing-led development.

Highlighting Coimbatore’s strategic importance as one of India’s foremost industrial and manufacturing hubs, the association noted the region’s strong presence in pumps, motors, foundry, engineering goods, textile machinery, and auto components. SIEMA stated that the city’s robust MSME ecosystem, skilled workforce, entrepreneurial culture, and industrial infrastructure continue to play a vital role in Tamil Nadu’s economic advancement.

Established in 1952, SIEMA represents the dynamic pump and motor manufacturing sector in the Coimbatore region and actively engages in policy advocacy in collaboration with both Central and State Governments.

Among its key recommendations,SIEMA urged the state government to designate pump manufacturing as a “Thrust Sector” under the state’s industrial policy framework. The association stated that such recognition would enable manufacturers to diversify into electric vehicle (EV) motor production while leveraging existing pump manufacturing infrastructure, expertise, and industrial synergies.

According to SIEMA, the move would help reduce dependence on imported EV motors, strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities, and enhance Tamil Nadu’s industrial self-reliance. The representation also emphasised the need for support towards technology modernisation, advanced manufacturing practices, and globally competitive production capabilities.

The association further pointed out that the Coimbatore region accounts for nearly 50 percent of India’s water pump production and has been recognised under the “One District One Product” (ODOP) initiative for pumps, reinforcing its leadership position in the sector.

SIEMA also highlighted challenges faced by manufacturers due to higher raw material costs in Tamil Nadu. The association stated that raw material prices are estimated to be 25 to 30 percent higher compared to Gujarat owing to multi-layered supply chains and logistics-related costs.

To address these concerns, SIEMA requested government support for expanding its raw material bank initiative, which caters to micro and small manufacturing units. The association sought collateral-free working capital assistance of ₹25 crore at subsidised interest rates to reduce operational costs and improve the competitiveness of MSMEs.

Additionally, SIEMA called for enhanced support for research and development (R&D), export marketing initiatives, and participation in international trade fairs and expos to strengthen the global footprint of Tamil Nadu manufacturers.
