Lakshmi Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), distributed driving licenses to 50 women, who have undergone free driving lessons under the training program sponsored by the City Police and Transport Department.

Speaking on the initiative, A. Amalraj, Commissioner of Police said, 'The growing number of road deaths is a matter of concern. In Tamilnadu alone, 14,000 fatal accidents took place in the past year. The reasons for most of the road deaths could be attributed to rash driving, road rage, not adhering to traffic rules including not wearing helmets. It is imperative on the part of road users to practice road rules diligently. Not only the motorists but also the pedestrians have dos and don'ts while using the public space”.

S. Saravanan, Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) who organized the event said that the free training was organized to extend livelihood measures to women.
