EC Releases Data: Women Voters Lead in Tamil Nadu as Turnout Reaches 4.88 Crore

According to ECI’s official figures, a total of 4,87,98,833 voters cast their votes out of an electorate of around 5.73 crore, resulting in an overall turnout of approximately 85.1% — the highest ever recorded in the State’s electoral history.

Chennai: Chennai: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the final voter turnout data for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held on April 23, confirming that 4.88 crore voters exercised their franchise across the State.

According to the official figures, a total of 4,87,98,833 voters cast their votes out of an electorate of around 5.73 crore, resulting in an overall turnout of approximately 85.1% — the highest ever recorded in the State’s electoral history.

The final data was released after a delay of several days, just ahead of the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.

Gender-wise data showed that women voters once again outnumbered men. Over 2.52 crore women voted, compared to around 2.35 crore men, continuing a trend seen in recent elections.

The increase in turnout has been partly attributed to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which streamlined the voter list and reduced the total electorate ahead of the polls.

Officials also noted participation from third-gender voters, with over 4,500 individuals casting their votes.

With counting set to begin on May 4, the Election Commission has put in place extensive arrangements across the State, including multiple counting centres, trained personnel, and strict monitoring systems to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
