Coimbatore Press Club flags irregularities in issuing media passes for covering election counting

Coimbatore Press Club has alleged discrepancies in issuance of media passes for polling and counting, urging the Chief Electoral Officer and District Collector to probe and ensure fair allocation.

Coimbatore:

The Coimbatore Press Club has raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the issuance of media passes for polling and counting days of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

In a representation addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu and the Coimbatore District Collector, the Press Club stated that each media organisation was officially entitled to two passes—one for a reporter and one for a cameraman or photographer—for election coverage.

However, the Press Club alleged that while several media houses had applied for two passes as per the guidelines, discrepancies were observed in the allotment process. Some media organisations were reportedly issued more than the permitted number of passes, while a few others received only one pass.

Condemning the inconsistency, the Coimbatore Press Club urged the authorities to conduct an inquiry into the matter and take corrective measures to ensure transparency and fairness in the distribution of passes.

The Press Club also called on officials to prevent such discrepancies in future, especially during crucial electoral processes where equal access for media coverage is essential.
