Local Cable Channel Owner Arrested in Coimbatore for Illegal Screening of Uncensored Film "Jana Nayagan"

Coimbatore police arrested Palanisamy, owner of "Rasi Prime Movie" cable channel, for illegally broadcasting the uncensored film "Jana Nayagan" on April 11, 2026. Electronic equipment seized and channel office sealed following complaint by Makkaludan Mudhalvar party member.

Coimbatore: In a significant crackdown on illegal content distribution, Coimbatore police have arrested the founder of a local cable television channel for broadcasting an uncensored film without obtaining mandatory clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification.

Palanisamy (44), owner of "Rasi Prime Movie," a local cable channel operating in the Karumathampatti police station limits, was taken into custody for allegedly screening the film "Jananaayakan" on April 11, 2026, without required censorship certification. The film remains pending approval from the censor board.

The case was registered at Karumathampatti police station based on a complaint filed by Mrs. Mohanapriya, Deputy Secretary of Makkaludan Mudhalvar party's Coimbatore Suburban East District unit. Following the complaint, District Superintendent of Police Dr. K. Karthikeyan ordered the formation of two special investigation teams to probe the matter.

During the investigation, police confirmed that "Jananaayakan," which is awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification, was illegally broadcast on the "Rasi Prime Movie" local cable channel. Investigators discovered that the channel had obtained the film through an illegal link circulating on the internet and made it available for public viewing.

The accused, Palanisamy, a resident of Ram Nagar area on Karumathampatti Somanur Main Road, was arrested and produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Police have also seized electronic equipment used in the alleged crime, including one computer and five hard disks.

The office of "Rasi TV" channel has been officially sealed by authorities for illegally screening copyrighted films. This action sends a strong message against copyright infringement and unauthorized content distribution in the region.

Coimbatore District Police issued a stern warning yesterday stating that stringent action would be taken against individuals or entities involved in illegally sharing films and copyrighted content through internet platforms or other means. The department emphasized zero tolerance for such violations.

Police have appealed to the public to immediately report any such illegal activities to the nearest police station or police helpline numbers. Citizens are encouraged to be vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement in curbing piracy and copyright violations.

This arrest highlights the growing concern over digital piracy and illegal content distribution through local cable networks. Authorities maintain that such activities not only violate copyright laws but also deprive filmmakers and content creators of their rightful earnings while exposing viewers to uncertified content.
