48 Tons Cargo and 5000 Passengers Travel Coimbatore-Sharjah Amid War Tensions

Despite Iran-Israel war tensions, Air Arabia operated flights between Coimbatore and Sharjah for 16 days in March 2026. Around 4,880 passengers traveled and 48 tons of cargo was handled during this period, according to airport sources.


Coimbatore: Despite prevailing Iran-Israel war tensions, flight services between Coimbatore Airport and Sharjah witnessed 4,880 passengers traveling in March, with 48 tons of cargo being handled, airport sources revealed.

Flight services from Coimbatore to Sharjah and Singapore were cancelled from March 1 due to the Iran-Israel war. The cancelled services to Abu Dhabi from Coimbatore have not been resumed yet.

In this situation, Air Arabia operated a flight service between Coimbatore and Sharjah on March 9. Subsequently, from March 12 to March 31, continuous flight services were provided from Thursday to Monday every week.

Despite the war tensions, a total of 4,880 people traveled on flights operated for 16 days in March. Cargo weighing 48 tons was handled during this period.

Each time the flight was operated, 160 passengers arrived in Coimbatore. Similarly, 140 passengers departed from Coimbatore to Sharjah. Additionally, cargo weighing 3 tons was transported on each flight operation.

Flight services between Coimbatore and Sharjah are expected to continue in April as well. However, airport sources indicated that services could be temporarily cancelled suddenly if the Iran-Israel war situation worsens.

Coimbatore International Airport serves as a key air transport hub for western Tamil Nadu and some parts of Kerala. Flight connectivity to Gulf countries is crucial for expatriate workers residing in this region.
