The vital organs of 53-year old Shanmugasundaram, of Chokkalinga Mudhaliar Street, Linganoor, Vadavalli Post, Coimbatore was harvested by a team of surgeons of Coimbatore Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH).
Shanmugasundharam, an electrician by profession, was returning from work when he met with a fatal accident on May 6 near Neelamabur and was subsequently admitted to KMCH for treatment.
As the patient didn’t respond to the treatment, he was declared brain dead by the team of doctors, who had attended on him.. The family members came forward to donate the organs of Shanmugasundharam, following which the doctors and surgeons at KMCH harvested the vital organs including the Heart Valve, Lung, Liver, Kidneys and Eyes for transplantation to needy patients.
While the harvested. Liver and one Kidney were transplanted at KMCH; Heart Valve along with Lungs were sent to Chennai using the green corridor. One Kidney was sent to Ramakrishna Hospital and Eyes were sent to Aravind Hospital at Coimbatore.
It was a proud moment for the whole family as the harvested organs helped give new lease of life to 7 needy people. In honoring their gesture.
