Traffic cop assaults offending motorist


Enraged at a young man who drove away despite being asked to stop, a traffic cop, who was on duty has assaulted the young man, which led to heated argument between the members of the public and the traffic police.  

Traffic policemen were carrying out routine vehicle check ( checking for driving license and RC book ) at Goods Shed road, when  Ashik, of Marakkadi, riding in his two-wheeler sped away even though signaled to stop by a traffic policeman.

It is said that the young man had in his possession only an  LLR, which too had lapsed. 

Following this, a traffic cop had allegedly grabbed the young man and hit him with a helmet and pushed his motor cycle down.  The members of the public, who were witnessing the ugly scene had intervened on behalf of the young man, following which a heated argument ensued between the Police and members of the Public for some time. 

Policemen from variety hall-police station arrived at the scene to appease the public who were upset at the treatment meted out to a young man. The ongoing traffic was affected for some time due to the melee.
