Young college boy commutes by cycle everyday to prevent pollution

Sabarish who just completed B.E Mechatronics Engineering from Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology (SKCET), Kuniamuthur, Coimbatore, has always been very considerate about the environment. He attended college by cycle throughout his stint there. Today’s youth barely commute through cycles. They use cars and bikes as symbols of social status. However, Sabarish very cautiously used a bicycle despite owning a bike, to reduce pollution.

“I am Sabarish, originally from Mumbai. I'm staying at Perur Chettipalayalam, Coimbatore, in a rented house which is 9.30 km away from my college. I use a bicycle to commute on a daily basis. Going to college by cycle was my decision. This was to eliminate bike travel which swallow's fuel and also emanates dust and fume. I earlier consumed 35 minutes for travel. Now my stamina has greatly increased and I can cover the same distance in a maximum of 20 minutes.

Pollution is mostly caused due to fossil fuel burning. One liter of petrol gives out around 2.88 kg of carbon dioxide. I have travelled around more than 9500 km on my cycle and prevented around 547.2 kg of carbon dioxide evolution to this world. In just the past 3 years. I travelled through cycle from 5th to 10th standard. Therefore, people barely bother walking or cycling for even the smallest of distances for easier alternatives are available. People should start following practices such as jogging in the morning and cycling to shops, schools, colleges and offices. This way we can control the artificial destruction of nature.

Let’s protect the environment and change for a good cause” said Sabarish.
