Officials of the Coonoor Municipality have started a drive to seal buildings and high rises which are constructed in violation of statutory building norms within the Municipal limits.
As allegations of not seeking plan approval or violating plan approval kept pouring into Commissioner of Municipal Administration in Chennai, the Coonoor Municipality has issued notices to the violators to set right the anomalies in structures including not building high rises and restricting the height of the buildings to 7 meters.
As these warning fell on deaf ears, the authorities have sealed the buildings, which blatantly violated norms.
As early as 2011, the Madras High court in its directive has asked the authorities not to give water or power connections to the structures violating mandatory building norms in the hill areas of Nilgiris district.
