Coimbatore Police Issues Directive to Colleges: No Helmet, No Entry

Coimbatore City Police announces mandatory helmet rule for college entry, aiming to reduce two-wheeler accident fatalities. Initiative to be extended to schools, government offices, and private establishments.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police has issued a crucial directive to all colleges in the city, mandating the use of helmets for two-wheeler riders entering college premises. This decision comes as part of an effort to reduce fatalities from road accidents involving two-wheelers.

On October 7, a statement released by the Coimbatore City Police revealed that a consultative meeting was held at the Commissioner's office with principals of all colleges located on Avinashi Road. The primary objective was to address the issue of two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets and the resulting loss of lives in accidents.

During the meeting, college authorities were requested to deny entry to students, teachers, and staff arriving on two-wheelers without wearing helmets. All college principals agreed to this proposal and committed to implementing it immediately. Consequently, banners displaying "No Helmet, No Entry" will be placed at the entrance of each college campus. The respective college administrations will ensure that all two-wheeler riders entering their premises wear helmets.

The police statement indicated that this initiative would be gradually extended to colleges on other major roads in the coming days. Furthermore, the plan is to expand this rule to schools, government and private institutions, malls, commercial complexes, and two-wheeler parking areas across the city.

The authorities emphasized that this collaborative effort aims to instill a sense of responsibility among educational institutions and business establishments in safeguarding the lives of their students and employees. The police have urged all stakeholders to cooperate with this proactive measure to enhance road safety in Coimbatore.
